Core Classics: Shostakovich' Ninth
Interactive introduction by host Martin Baai (partly in Dutch)
Shostakovich | Symphony No. 9 conducted by Chief Conductor Lahav Shani
"Short, full of humor, like a jack-in-the-box," chief conductor Lahav Shani calls the Ninth of Shostakovich, “but that symphony also has a deeply personal side. The highlight is the moment when the bassoon will stand alone in front of the entire orchestra: the dramatic encounter of the soloist with fate. Slowly but surely the two come together and that opens the way to the liberating final.“
