Mahler Totenfeier | Shostakovich Symphony No. 13 ‘Babi Yar‘
After stepping down as our music director Yannick Nézet-Séguin will no longer be seen often in Europe. But he will continue his appearances with our orchestra, as honorary conductor. His first concert in that new role opens with Mahler’s searing Totenfeier, the original version of his Second Symphony. The main work is a rare performance of Shostakovich’s poignant and profoundly human Thirteenth, with Mikhail Petrenko as the best conceivable soloist.
