Program

conductor Duncan Ward
Shaw
The Observatory (Dutch première) | Mazzoli Sinfonia (Dutch première) | Norman Play, level 1 (Dutch première) | Rachmaninoff Symphonic Dances

Before the concert: interview with Duncan Ward (7:15 p.m.) and performance of Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man (7:45 p.m.).

Showered with prizes, labelled one of the best compositions of this century; rarely has a new orchestral work been so highly acclaimed as Play by Andrew Norman. ‘Is it really that good?’ wondered David Allen (New York Times). ‘Yes,’ he wrote, answering his own question, ‘especially if you hear it live.’ High time for a Dutch première – in which Norman is joined by two equally brilliant contemporaries.

This concert is also part of the Red Sofa series of de Doelen.
