Valery Gergiev: Scottish Symphony

Valery Gergiev
15 Sep 2020
19:30 and 21:30

conductor Valery Gergiev

Beethoven Overture Die Ruinen von Athen
Mendelssohn Symphony No. 3 ‘Scottish’

About this concert

In all his years with the Rotterdam Philharmonic, Valery Gergiev conducted exactly one of Mendelssohn's symphonies: the Italian, in 1995. A delightful performance, 'light, bright and sunny', according to NRC. It is a mystery why it remained that one time. The greater this opportunity, Gergiev's debut with us with the 'Scottish' Symphony: we may have to wait another quarter of a century for his next Mendelssohn symphony.
