Shostakovich | Chamber Symphony op. 110a

Shostakovich wrote his Chamber Symphony in one of the darkest periods of his life. “While I was writing it,” composer confided to a good friend, “tears rolled down my cheeks.” To justify the fact that it is tragic in tone, he dedicated the piece to the victims of fascism and war. The attentive listener knows the truth: this is Shostakovich’s moving account of his own suffering.
