Program
conductor and piano Lahav Shani | oboe Karel Schoofs
Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 4 | Beethoven Oboe Concerto (fragment) | Beethoven Symphony No. 7
‘On the basis of these pieces, expert and amateur alike cannot but admit that he will in time become one of the greatest musical artists in Europe,’ said Haydn on hearing Beethoven’s Oboe Concerto, ‘and I shall be proud to call myself his teacher.’ The manuscript of that brilliant work is lost, but the middle movement has recently been reconstructed – a largo in which all the seeds of Beethoven’s greatest symphonies and piano concertos can be found.
Lahav's Keynote: Beethoven
The understated and melancholic second movement of the lost oboe concerto can be heard in between two of Beethoven’s monumental works. I’m looking forward to that.
