Harpsichord recital: French Baroque masterpieces
Harpsichord Pierre Hantaï
Including: L. Couperin Prélude (Bauyn Manuscript) | Rameau Selection from Pieces de clavecin | F. Couperin Selection from Second livre de pieces de clavecin | Balbastre La Lugeac (gigue)
‘Spectacular… Hantaï, a pupil of Gustav Leonhardt, is a great virtuoso,’ is how NRC characterised the French harpsichordist. In this recital he opens the treasure trove of the French Baroque, in which the creations of Couperin, Rameau and Balbastre glitter like gold. He is able to conjure a dazzling array of colours from his instrument, from silver caresses to ‘lashing hailstorms of pure notes’.
The concert lasts an hour and there is no intermission.
