‘Tishchenko sets the Gergiev Festival alight’, wrote Trouw about the sensational discovery of the 2007 edition of the Festival. Now this pupil of Shostakovich returns with his stupefying ballet music The Twelve. The grand finale is Prokofiev’s October Cantata for large chorus and even larger orchestra, complete with a military band, accordions, megaphone, sirens and machine guns. Only at this Festival can you experience something like that.
After this concert saxophonist Ties Mellema and the Rembrandt Frerichs Trio give an after party with avant-garde jazz in the Central Hall.
