A long, arching melody on the cellos opens Bruckners much-loved Seventh Symphony. And so many beautiful things follow, including an Adagio characterized by a sense of deep mourning and a finale that throbs with excitement. It is the first Bruckner symphony performed by Lahav Shani in Rotterdam. The acclaimed violinist Pinchas Zukerman, appearing with the orchestra for the first time since the 1970s, plays Bruch’s romantic evergreen.
