The aim of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra Academy is to allow young musicians to play in a top orchestra and gain experience, giving their musical career a flying start. The programme includes playing as a member of the orchestra, lessons from principals and other members of the orchestra, intensive training for auditions, playing chamber music and mental and physical training.
Managing Director George Wiegel is delighted with the new academy: ‘The Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra has always been committed to finding talented young musicians, providing them with a platform and challenging them to get the best out of themselves. We see the academy as the ideal springboard for gaining practical experience after completion of studies. The collaboration with talented young musicians is a tremendous interaction: we try to be a source of knowledge and inspiration for them, but we also learn from them and they keep us young and on our toes.’
The Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra Academy has been founded with the support of Ahold Delhaize.
Frans Muller, CEO of Ahold Delhaize: ‘This academy is a fantastic initiative to give young musicians a kickstart in their musical career. I am therefore proud of Ahold Delhaize’s contribution to this institute. At our company, we encourage the development of young talents in all our markets. I wish the participants lots of fun and luck in the coming year and look forward to all the great things we will undoubtedly hear from them!’
