Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest

Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra goes to Bucharest

First foreign concerts for the orchestra since the pandemic outbreak.

In September, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra will give two concerts at the International George Enescu Festival in Bucharest, conducted by chief conductor Lahav Shani. With the visit to this prestigious festival - where the Rotterdam Philharmonic was also a guest in 2007 - the orchestra is making its return to the international concert stages. The corona outbreak put an end to a major America tour of the orchestra in March 2020; for the coming months the orchestra from Rotterdam has a number of concert tours on the agenda. Conditions permitting, the orchestra will travel to Germany and Austria in December this year and it will travel to Taiwan, Korea and China for a tour in June 2022.

On September 11, the orchestra will play Brahms' Violin Concerto with Gil Shaham as soloist and Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony. On September 12, Rachmaninov's Third Piano Concerto with Yefim Bronfman and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition is on the program.

George Wiegel, managing director, is looking forward to the concerts at the International George Enescu Festival in Bucharest: “It is a great start of the season for the orchestra to give two concerts at this beautiful international festival with our chief conductor Lahav Shani, and also because the top of the music world is a guest here. We are buzzing with energy and ambition to make our music sound again at homeand beyond our national borders.”
