It has to be Beethoven! Not just because of the anniversary year, but also because of what his music represents: exactly what we need in these times. The way in which he struggled with his health and loneliness and was able to turn it into great art, it could inspire all of us. So isn't it the most beautiful thing that - after our viral video in March and the first eight symphonies in smaller settings this month - we're playing the Ninth with a full orchestra and choir; it is the final chapter of the cycle and an exclamation mark to end this year.'
