Played & conducted by
Prokofiev Piano Concerto No. 3
conductor & piano Lahav Shani
Prokofiev's Third Piano Concerto is one of Lahav Shani's great favourites: ‘Colourful, virtuoso and full of lyricism – it’s one of the most popular concertos in the repertoire, and certainly one of the most demanding’. The latter remark is no exaggeration: it is a huge task for soloist, conductor and orchestra alike. That Lahav Shani conducts this performance from the piano is something you have to see to believe. Nothing less than extraordinary.
The making of
Prokofiev's Third Piano Concerto is a spectacle in itself. To perform and record it with a conductor who simultaneously plays the solo part is a straightforward 'tour de force'. A few weeks ago we accomplished that feat with our chief conductor Lahav Shani as conducting soloist.
Lahav Shani, solo clarinetist Julien Hervé and director Dick Kuijs explain what went into realizing this daring project.
