BCC Proms: Prokofiev's Third piano concerto
A walhalla for every affectionate of classical music: Friday the 23th of August, The Rotterdam Philharmonic is a guest at the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
July 19 marks the start of orchestra's around the globe visiting the Royal Albert Hall in Londen. In 1895, the first 'promenade'took place: an informal and accesible event where people could stand and listen. Little of this tradition has changed, however, the Royal Albert Hall is now accomodated with seats. In Short, a Walhalla for every affectionate of classical music, which lasts until September 14. Led by Lahav Shani, the Rotterdam Philharmonic will play Prokofjevs Third piano concerto. This feat of musical derring-do is apt for a concert packed with game-changing masterpieces from the first decades of the 20th century, including Debussy’s symphonic seascape La mer. It culminates in the waltz to end all waltzes: Ravel’s compelling, nightmarish piece of orchestral theatre, La valse.
