It was 14 May 1940 when the smoke above Rotterdam had cleared. Only the Laurenskerk's bell tower was still standing amidst the destroyed heart of the city. A beacon of hope: someday this city would rise from its own ashes. This concert is held in memory of the bombardment 84 years, calls for peace in our time, and ends with a vision of a glorious future of a world held in the arms of justice.
