Mendelssohn & Bruckner

A whispering in the violins, then a glorious melody rises from the cello group: the beginning of Bruckner's Seventh symphony sounds like the revelation of a miracle. Bruckner himself said that he had heard the music in a dream – not unlike the way Mendelssohn (‘I can't get it out of my head’) had his enchanting Violin Concerto come to him.
