Parisian dreams
Virtuous, colourful, expressive and compelling; Stéphane Denève conducts Ravel and Saint-Saëns.
A singing mermaid, a shadowy gallows field, a looming goblin: Ravel's Gaspard de la nuit is a triptych of sound-wrought dream images. Originally written for piano, this piece now reveals its deepest secrets in Bart Visman's orchestration. Sparkling music that could have originated nowhere else but in Paris, ville lumière, city of Boulanger, Saint-Saëns, and also a bit of Stravinsky.
